‘‘If young people are educated properly, we have moral order, if not, vice and disorder prevail. Religion alone can initiate and achieve a true education’’
- Don Bosco
Greetings!!!
I congratulate Fr. Ajit Munis, the Principal, teachers, parents and students for battling the pandemic Covid 19 with courage and strong will power. The transformation of physical classes into virtual classes was truly commendable. Last year students missed the falling from bicycles, scraping of knees, dusting of clothes, peer jokes, laboratory learning, ground games, everything was shrunk into a tiny screen. However hard and challenging it may have been, we can proudly say, we have never drawn into a mire of despair and inactivity. We have turned challenges into opportunities. Indeed! God’s Grace and the protection of our Patron Saint, Don Bosco have helped us to execute all our planned activities and other events in a smooth manner. Our teachers and students, parents and the non - teaching staff have lived up to the massive and unprecedented change in the mode of education and our life style. We have all been tested for our patience, endurance, hope and faith. This year is a very special year as we celebrate 50 years of powerful presence of our Founder Saint - Don Bosco at the Bombay province. The Mother house Matunga encompasses the states of Madhya Pradesh, parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and the entire state of Maharashtra. Hence it is very apt to choose the theme for Bosco Musings “Memory with Gratitude and Prophecy”. The seeds of this great mission were sown long back in the year 1974 when the Salesian Society of Don Bosco took over the school and parish from the Jesuits. It was really difficult to conduct classes in the shed like structure, with just three classrooms, even the Sunday services and daily masses were held in the same dusty place. As the Parish and School were located on the banks of the Mula Mutha River, a lot of inconvenience was faced during the monsoon. However, the Good Shepherd Rev. Fr. Michael Mascarenhas, SDB took charge of the parish and the school and soon the problems started fading away. He managed to acquire a spacious piece of land at an alternative site at a distance of about 1 km. In the year 1979, the School was housed in a temporary asbestos structure with ten small rooms. The Salesian Fathers worked with zeal and enthusiasm for the people of the parish which were mainly from the slums of Yerwada. Initially children were forcibly brought to School to secure the requisite strength and were even provided uniforms and books. I pay my tribute to all the missionaries who worked relentlessly for the development of this area. Now, the students of Don Bosco Edu - Complex, Pune have not only dreamt big but have also achieved the incredible in all spheres. Be it medical, I.T industry, hospitality, fashion, music, and politics. We have it all. And as Don Bosco says, “Education is a matter of the heart, of which God is the sole master and we will be unable to achieve anything unless God teaches us, and puts the keys in our hands”. Education should never be constant. It is to help us face the uncertain. It is here to make us honest and responsible citizens. The Preventive method of Don Bosco acts as a powerful instrument to channelize the young minds and help them face the challenges and turn them into opportunities. For it is, God’s infinite mercy that will help us unveil the bright future. God bless !
